Who pays for shipping on wholesale orders?

You want to sell wholesale, but you’re worried about your margins. You might feel like you have to cut your prices in half. Reading this article will help you find out how to confidently price your products for wholesale.

When you start selling to stores at a wholesale price, you might wonder who pays for shipping. It can feel expensive when you’ve been shipping one at a time.

So, who pays for the shipping on wholesale orders?

Generally, the buyer pays for the shipping. Stores expect to pay to ship.

You might consider having a promo at a particular time of the year (such as during a wholesale trade show), where you will offer free shipping on a specific order amount. You could add the shipping into your costs and offer that as “free shipping” when marketed to potential buyers. Another option is free shipping when the buyer places a minimum order quantity.

There are many different shipping options depending on how you are selling your products.

Do you sell through an e-commerce website, in-person, or locally? For example, Shopify has its own shipping plan or you can add on a shipping application like ShipStation.

As you are setting up your shipping options on your website, you can offer the buyer to choose the carrier and type of shipping. If they want it shipped faster, you can offer that option! Sometimes you might add an amount to cover your shipping supplies.

PS: Printing labels is much more efficient than printing and taping. A thermal printer will save you time and money!

When it comes to purchasing shipping supplies, make sure you are buying packaging supplies in bulk. Boxes, tape, and filler are all essentials. You might consider adding branded tissue, stickers, postcards about new or different products, or a handwritten note just to say thank you.

Shipping can be costly depending on where you are shipping and with costs going up daily in this economy. Carefully consider all of these options when you are pricing your products from the time you decide to start shipping wholesale.
