Lucy’s Inspired: Current Delights

A couple of things that have stood out to me in the last week or so.

I am reading a book I picked up at Jeanne Oliver’s workshop, Paper and Portraits, called Towards Rest by Alabaster Books. It’s a beautiful book and the title called to me. Rest. I believe that I do not rest. As I read this book, I realize, my rest is similar to how this book describes rest. I travel a lot and wander in a dream-like state when I’m in a new place. I believe travel gives us a way to open our eyes to new experiences but also to notice details where we cannot do that at home or in our day-to-day. Even when I’m traveling to a place that I’ve been to before (or many times), I find myself noticing the walkways, the architecture, and my surroundings in a way that I can’t find the time to do at home. You may have read a couple of my Wander > Home blogs where I talk about bringing inspiration back home and incorporating it into my design.

There’s nothing like resting at home. Being in my own bed, walking barefoot across my own floors, and even snuggling upon my sofa gives me a peace that I can’t find in travel. But, the rest it gives me to stop and smell the roses energizes me as I come back to the day-to-day.

Going to these workshops also allows me to meet new people and hang out with friends I’ve met before. There are some amazing people at these workshops. If you haven’t been to a workshop of a hobby that you love. I highly recommend going. You will find your people. They are all over the world and when you come together, you get a lot more out of the workshop than a finished piece. I got to meet Ramtalk IRL, Ramona is a doll and I’ve followed her for years! I encourage you to follow her not only for her art but her sweet personality. She’s so encouraging and gracious!

I shared the first picture of me and my husband on Instagram this week. It was of us Spring Break 1991. Such a fun thing to have. 33 years of Valentine’s Days together. It was our first date and he claims to have done that on purpose. I’m calling BS.

I also finished The Life Council: 10 Friends Every Woman Needs. That’s another great thing about travel. Lots of reading! Still mostly audio. But, I get to read books and I love that! I have two books in my bag. Sea of Tranquility and Interviews with Francis Bacon by David Sylvester.
