3 Tips Before Reaching Out To Wholesale Buyers

3 Tips Before Reaching Out To Wholesale Buyers

I get it. Reaching out to wholesale buyers can be intimidating… but what if it wasn’t? What if you had the tools to confidently gain brand deals that land your products in both small and large retail stores? Today I’m sharing my 3 best tips before reaching out to wholesale buyers, and at the bottom of this post, you’ll find information on my best-selling course, the School For Wholesale.

Tip #1: Always link to your social media platforms (especially Instagram).

Chances are that the first interaction a consumer and a buyer will have with your brand is on social media. For example, I like to think of Instagram as a “mini-preview” of your website. You should have great, clear photos (without any harsh filters), updated Instagram Highlights, and you should be posting Stories on a regular basis.

Tip #2: Perfect your brand story and elevator pitch.

Before reaching out to any buyers, you need to have your brand story ready. Keep in mind that this isn’t a time for your 55-page brand guide. You need to keep it as short as possible while still conveying what your brand is about, and why the buyer should work with you. If you have trouble crafting your elevator pitch, ask yourself these questions:

  • What does my brand do?

  • Who does my brand serve?

  • How do I serve them?

Tip #3: Make sure your website is in tip-top shape.

While your Instagram may be the first point of contact, your website can either “bring it home” or deter a buyer from working with you. Make sure that the term “Wholesale” is front and center on your Menu, not buried in the Footer. It’s also a great idea to have a form dedicated to Wholesale on the front page of your website OR on the “Wholesale” page. If you’ve worked with buyers before, gather some testimonials to display. New buyers will appreciate the social proof if they need a little more convincing. FAQs are also a must-have when it comes to wholesale. Questions that buyers will want to know from you include:

  • What is the shelf life of your products?

  • Do you have a minimum order?

  • What are the turnaround and shipping times?

  • What shipping carriers do you use?

It’s also a good idea to include any common product-specific questions that you have received from customers over the years.
