10 Things I Loved about Spending 10 Days in Italy

10 Things I Loved about Spending 10 Days in Italy

As you may have noticed on my Instagram, I recently spent 10 whole days across the country in Italy with a few of my close friends. Pretty dreamy, right?

It’s easy for me to look around during these adventures and feel immense gratitude. Not to sound cliche, but these are truly the days I dreamed of as a young girl, an early adult…and even now I am still dreaming of all the exciting things ahead. I don’t take the opportunity to travel and explore the world for granted, and will always be a big believer in the power of travel! Read more about why I think it's so important here.

Oftentimes when I read other blogs or articles about travel, they’re jam-packed with itineraries, places to see, where to stay, what restaurants to eat at…the list goes on. And let me assure you - I am beyond thankful this type of information exists on the internet because I have found it SO helpful when planning trips. I love getting inspiration from “must see/do” suggestion lists and appreciate the hard work that goes into planning these out.

So while it was tempting to create a blog post about all of the incredible food, the historical landmarks, and the other things I hope everyone gets the chance to see/experience on a trip to Italy, today I want to share a little something different with you.

And before I do, I also want to point out that “short and concise” isn’t necessarily my norm 😉So consolidating what you’ll read below was actually a bit of a challenge, and one that I hope will encourage you to simplify things in your mind and appreciate well, simplicity over-exuberance. Wondering what I’m talking about?

Well, I decided to narrow down (everything) I saw, experienced, and loved about spending 10 days in Italy into just 10 things. It feels crazy even saying it because again - there were a LOT of magical moments throughout this trip.

10 Things I Loved About Spending 10 Days in Italy:

  1. Every detail.

  2. Breathtaking architecture around every corner.

  3. Marble in all the right places.

  4. Floors…from mosaics to cobblestone.

  5. The people: shop owners, hostesses, and waitstaff.

  6. Wall murals and CEILING murals.

  7. Details from the 13th century that are still relevant.

  8. Venice - no cars! Only boats!

  9. Brass doorknobs.

  10. Texture layered everywhere!

  11. Gardens worth getting lost in.

  12. Doors leading to a courtyard…or just to another door.

Did it surprise you how short and simple these are?

Sometimes the world tries to convince us that we need to do more, explain more, see more, eat more, consume more, etc, etc, etc. Do you ever feel this pressure? Even when it comes to writing down our daily gratitude in a journal, sometimes it can feel like we need to be extra creative and “think outside the box”...when really what we’re most grateful for that day is the way the sun came through the blinds (just like it does every other day).

And psssst: can I offer a gentle reminder that creating lists like this or what you write in your gratitude journal is for no one else but you!? When I read this list, my mind immediately sees the exact things, spaces, and faces that I thought of when I wrote them down. It will always be that way - a special little reminder of the beauty I experienced.

I hope this simple list inspires you to appreciate the simple. To recognize what’s right in front of you. To accept and be okay with narrowing down what matters most - what stands OUT most - in your life.

Keep an eye out for an upcoming blog post about how I’m using this inspiration to design my new house!

Have you ever spent time in Italy!? What would be on your list!? Let me know in the comments!
